Improving Indoor Air Quality with DESSO AirMaster

In a recent survey of 2,800 global office workers Tarkett, our suppliers of high quality carpet, asked their employees how they felt about going back to work after the pandemic and found that indoor air quality has now become the top concern.

Moreover, studies indicate that 60% of office workers report feeling unwell due to poor indoor air quality. This statistic highlights the urgency for businesses to address air quality concerns to maintain a healthy workforce.

Research from the World Health Organisation shows that indoor air pollution is a significant contributor to various health issues, including respiratory diseases and allergies. By enhancing air quality, businesses can significantly reduce these risks.

This is particularly relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where maintaining good air quality is essential for reducing transmission risks and ensuring employee safety.

This concern is not unfounded. A recent Harvard University study from April 2020 has found that even small increases in long-term exposure to fine dust and particles in the air can increase the risk of serious complications from COVID-19.

What’s even more alarming is that indoor air quality can be 2 to 5 times more polluted with invisible particles than outdoor air, as there is a risk that the particles keep on circulating until they are inhaled by someone.

In addition, many indoor pollutants are not visible to the naked eye, making it crucial for businesses to take proactive measures to assess and improve air quality in their spaces.

In real-world applications, companies that have switched to DESSO AirMaster reported a noticeable decrease in airborne allergens, leading to fewer sick days and increased employee satisfaction.

How can you improve indoor air quality?

Investing in air purifiers and ensuring adequate ventilation are fundamental steps in achieving a healthier indoor environment. Regular assessments of air quality can help identify issues before they become significant problems.

DESSO AirMaster provides a robust solution to combat indoor air pollutants, offering a much cleaner alternative to traditional flooring materials. Its design facilitates effective particle capture, contributing to a healthier indoor atmosphere.

Impressively, it is the world’s first product to be awarded the GUI Gold Plus label, the highest possible accreditation granted by Germany’s leading independent air quality testing organisation (GUI).

Furthermore, the ability of DESSO AirMaster to retain and release dust efficiently ensures that it maintains a cleaner appearance over time, reducing the need for frequent carpet replacements, which is also better for the environment.

Regular cleaning routines that incorporate DESSO AirMaster can significantly improve indoor air quality by ensuring that pollutants are not allowed to accumulate and degrade the environment.

Additionally, the integration of indoor plants can further enhance air quality, as certain species are known to absorb toxins and release beneficial oxygen, creating a more pleasant workspace.

Education around indoor air quality should not be overlooked. Workshops on how to maintain a healthy workplace can empower employees to take an active role in improving their environment.

Implementing a comprehensive strategy that includes the use of DESSO AirMaster along with good ventilation practices and employee training can transform the workplace into a healthier space.

As sustainability becomes increasingly important, businesses that invest in products like DESSO AirMaster demonstrate their commitment to both employee wellbeing and environmental stewardship.

Thus, creating policies that encourage workplace health and safety through improved indoor air quality is essential for modern organisations, especially in light of evolving health standards.

What happens with the particles?

Not only is DESSO AirMaster better at capturing harmful particles floating around in the air, it is also better at releasing them into the vacuum cleaner during regular cleaning.

At least 80% of the captured dust is released when the carpet is being vacuumed – 16% more than regular carpets – which means that the particles are gone by the end of the day and you can come back to the office in the morning to a healthier environment.

As good for the environment as it is for your health

Tarkett believe in Doing Good. Together. In 2019 they launched their latest innovation within the AirMaster collection – AirMaster Gold, a true marvel when it comes to sustainability and human health, which has been certified Cradle to Cradle Gold. In addition to this, all of their AirMaster ranges utilise their Cradle to Cradle Gold certified EcoBase backing as standard.

Now they could have stopped there, but they haven’t. With their ReStart programme, they can collect your carpet tiles when it is time for them to be replaced, sending them to their recycling facility. Here the yarn is separated from the backing and both components are reengineered in order to be used again. This process enables them to move towards a fully circular economy.
